Abstract

Nowadays the materials flow in manufacturing systems is often assured by AGVs. This paper describes a typical AGV System and presents a three layers control architecture. Petri nets are a well-known modelling tool for Discrete Event Dynamic Systems. They are widely used in simulation of systems from different application areas, which exhibit concurrency, synchronisation and resources sharing. Within this context, the application of Stochastic and Coloured Petri nets to the modelling and designing of AGVs Systems is described. After establishing a Stochastic and Coloured Petri net model, a case study for analysis of management and control strategies for an AGVs fleet is presented.
